Ray Lewis Visits Summit Sportsplex to Encourage the Next Generation
Summit Sportsplex was honored to welcome NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis for a powerful day of encouragement, challenge, and community. Students, coaches, educators, and local leaders came together under one roof for a message centered on discipline, identity, courage, and the choices that shape a life.

More than a speaking event, the day reflected what Summit Sportsplex is here to do: create a place where young people can be inspired, supported, and reminded that their future is bigger than their circumstances. As Kevin Connelly shared with the crowd, “All we care about is showing kids in the Roanoke Valley that there is more to life than what you certainly have right now.” He went on to say, “That’s what the Summit’s about.”

That vision came through clearly all day. Dr. Verletta White spoke about the importance of partnership, resilience, and creating opportunities for students across the region, while Ray Lewis challenged students to think deeply about who they are, what they are becoming, and whether they are living casually or with commitment.
One of the strongest themes of the day was the power of discipline. Lewis urged students not to let labels, distractions, or outside voices define them. Instead, he challenged them to build structure, protect their future, and live with purpose. His message was direct, personal, and deeply rooted in his own story.
We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the event possible, including our school and community partners, local leaders, coaches, and the many students who showed up ready to listen and grow. This was not just a great event. It was a picture of what can happen when a community comes together around young people.
